NORWALK, Ohio (June 22, 2022) – Robert Hight and the AAA Ohio Chevrolet Camaro SS team head to Summit Racing Motorsports Park for the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals ready to make-up some ground and keep the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series points lead well within grasp.
Hight has three wins so far this season with back-to-back victories at the season-opening Winternationals in Pomona, Calif. and the Arizona Nationals just outside of Phoenix and a victory at the Virginia NHRA Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park where he shared the stage with Top Fuel teammate Brittany Force. Hight and the AAA team also have two No. 1 qualifiers, most recently taking the top spot at the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals just last weekend at Bristol Dragway. Their performance has kept them at the top of the points, holding steady at second just 42 behind leader Matt Hagan.
“I like these back-to-back races, I don’t like having all the downtime. So, I’m excited to be heading to Norwalk. We didn’t have the performance we wanted in Bristol and this gives an opportunity for this AAA team to quickly pick things back up,” Hight said. “We’re still second in points and it’s a tough field right now. We aren’t the only ones with three wins and when we aren’t winning, we still need to be going rounds, picking up qualifying points and making sure we’re still in it. We have to be consistent.”
Robert Hight has done everything at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals except hoist the winner’s trophy. He’s been No. 1 qualifier three times (2007, 2008 and 2011), a finalist twice (2008 and 2017) and is the current track record holder for speed having accelerated his AAA Chevy Camaro to a finish line speed of at 334.65 mph in 2017.
Racing at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park begins with four qualifying sessions on Friday at 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. and Saturday at 1:30 and 5:00 p.m. Eliminations are slated to begin at 11 a.m. Television coverage of the race weekend will be on FOX Sports 1 (FS1) beginning with qualifying shows Friday t 10:30 p.m. ET and Sunday at 1:30 p.m. ET. Eliminations will air Sunday at 3:00 p.m. ET.
